NIPPOMANIA #5 : Dr. STONE (Manga, anime)
Do you remember starting a manga series that was so fascinating and original that you devoured it in record time, without even realizing how quickly the time had passed? I had a similar experience with Dr. STONE, a shōnen manga by Riichiro Inagaki and Boichi.
Since his early childhood, Senku Ishigami has been passionate about science, regardless of the field. He spends his time exploring the laboratories of his school in order to experiment and learn everything that has been discovered by humans in over 2000 years, making him a true genius.

One day, a mysterious green aura appears in the sky and the unimaginable happens; the radiation from the green light transforms humans from all over the Earth into unbreakable stone statues. It is then that Senku and all his friends fall into a sleep that will last more than 3500 years (3721 years, 2 months, 2 days, 4 hours, 48 minutes and 50 seconds, to be precise). Senku, from the moment he was petrified, refused to become unconscious and therefore counted every second without stopping during all that time, in order to have a good idea of the temporal context if he ever managed to get out of his trap.
Lost in the seconds, Senku feels the rock around him cracking thanks to a flow of nitric acid from bat guano. Freedom!

Some time passes and Senku settles into this new world with a mission in mind: to break the curse that has befallen over more than 7 billion humans. Using a nitric acid formula, he revives his best friend Taiju and a giant named Tsukasa. With their help, Senku marks the beginning of the Kingdom of Science, the savior of all humanity.

However, Tsukasa does not share the same vision. For him, reviving the adults of this world would only bring back the war, politics, and conflicts of the previous post-apocalyptic world. Tsukasa leaves the Kingdom of Science by stealing the formula to counteract petrification and founds the Tsukasa Empire, a group of young revolutionaries who want to shape a new world.
This is when Senku's great journey begins, armed with superhuman intelligence and an iron will.

Dr. STONE is an extraordinary shōnen series that is both extremely intelligent and packed with humor and action scenes overflowing with suspense. Additionally, the master of modern fighting manga Boichi (Origin, Sun-Ken Rock) is in charge of the artwork. Known for his dark lines and unique character designs, he adds an interesting visual touch.
The anime series is a very faithful adaptation of the manga and is definitely worth watching. Two seasons and one special episode are already available for viewing, and Season 3, NEW WORLD, will begin airing on Crunchyroll on April 6, 2023!
The manga is completed in 26 volumes, published in French by Glénat and in English by Viz.
