La compagnie est connue pour ses nombreux titres comportant des adolescents fictifs comprenant Archie Andrews, Jughead Jones, Betty Cooper, Veronica Lodge, Sabrina Spellman, et Josie et les Pussycats.

La compagnie a débuté en 1939 comme MLJ Comics, qui a publié principalement des bandes dessinées de superhéros. Les premiers personnages d'Archie (Archie Andrews, Betty Cooper et Veronica Lodge) ont été créés en 1941 par l'éditeur John L. Goldwater et l'artiste Bob Montana, en collaboration avec l'écrivain Vic Bloom. Ils sont apparus pour la première fois dans Pep Comics # 22 (Dec. 1941).

Avec la création d'Archie, l'éditeur John Goldwater espérait faire appel aux fans des films d'Andy Hardy mettant en vedette Mickey Rooney. Archie Comics était aussi le titre de la publication la plus longue de l'entreprise, le premier numéro apparaissant avec une date de couverture de l'hiver 1942.  À partir du numéro 114, le titre a été raccourci simplement à Archie.

La série phare a été relancée à partir du numéro 1 en juillet 2015 avec un nouveau look et une conception adaptée à une nouvelle génération de lecteurs.

Les personnages et les concepts d'Archie Comics sont également apparus dans de nombreux films, programmes télévisés, dessins animés et jeux vidéo.
