EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT ROBERT KIRKMAN'S NEW TRANSFORMERS/G.I. JOE UNIVERSE
On June 14, 2023, it was announced in the early morning that Hasbro and Skybound Entertainment have reached an agreement to relocate various franchises to a new publishing house, namely Skybound/Image Comics. The excitement for this news is high, and there are numerous questions about the actual content of this relaunch. Beware, here comes Energon, a new shared universe orchestrated by renowned creator of Invincible and The Walking Dead, Robert Kirkman, accompanied by a five-star team of creators!
Yes, indeed, the two cult franchises Transformers and G.I. Joe will be the pillars of this new universe. After several months of questioning and speculation about the future of these two giants in the world of comic books, the relocation is finally established, and a popular resurgence of both parties has never seemed more favorable! An introduction to the new universe, published between the pages of VOID RIVALS #1, became available for order as announcements circulated on the first day of the big announcement, and its stocks were depleted in less than 24 hours. Written by Robert Kirkman, accompanied by his long-time partner Lorenzo De Felici, with whom he created Oblivion Song, the comic was initially published as a new long-term collaboration between the two creators but turned out to be a brilliant marketing move that served to announce the new universe. Surprise! In the final pages of the book, readers are taken aback by the appearance of Jetfire, a classic character from the world of Autobots and Decepticons. This is the beginning of a new era for these beloved big robots. As if the excitement wasn't high enough, in October, the new ongoing series "TRANSFORMERS" will be published, written and drawn by none other than Daniel Warren Johnson, whom we absolutely adore. The comic artist hailing from Massachusetts is thrilled about the project, mentioning that he has been drawing Optimus Prime since the first grade. The series will tell the classic story of the arrival of the Autobots and Decepticons on Earth after the war on Cybertron. Mr. Johnson, you have no idea how eager we are to read the next installment in your perfect bibliography.
On the G.I. Joe side, Joshua Williamson will be in control of the universe's development. After overseeing several events at DC Comics, the Portland native will focus on the long-term construction of an exhilarating team of Joes that is likely to attract many new fans to this fractured military science-fiction world. Currently, four limited series are planned at Skybound, but only two have been unveiled so far. "THE DUKE," by Joshua Williamson and Tom Reilly, will provide a modern take on the creation of G.I. Joe and Cobra. "COBRA COMMANDER," by Joshua Williamson and Andrea Milana, will explore a world where the Cobra organization doesn't yet exist, but an ill-intentioned individual utilizes a mysterious extraterrestrial substance that will forever change the entire world.
Pre-orders for TRANSFORMERS #1, DUKE #1, and COBRA COMMANDER #1 are now open! Don't wait too long, as something big is brewing at Skybound!
