Do you have a special order guarantee?

While we would love to provide one, it just isn't possible to guarantee special orders.  There are some things that we simply can’t get.

How do you bill me for my special order?

If you’re a subscription customer, we’ll add it you your next order. If you’re not a subscription customer, we’ll ask for a deposit up front before we place the order and we will invoice you for the remaining amount when it arrives.  The remaining amount is usually the GST on books and in some cases, the deadly combo GST and QST. However, if you ordered an American book, the remaining amount might also include the exchange rate for that particular week.  Please remain aware of this particularity.

FREE SHIPPING

What is the minimum requirement for Free Delivery?

You need to have a cart with at least $100 CAD in merchandise before tax(es) to benefit from free shipping anywhere in Canada.

Like Unlike Loading... 0 people like this.

Why are you using Canada Post?

Our carrier of choice is Canada Post.  For some items, such as Letter Mail delivery, they are the only choice since they are a de facto monopoly.  They certainly are not the cheapest option out there.  But they have a (relatively) efficient solution for small businesses that (usually) gives us a reasonable assurance that you, the customer will get his stuff promptly.  There are other alternatives but the costs savings versus the complications are not really cost effective for anyone.  So the status quo is the best current alternative.  But we are always on the lookout for means to lower shipping costs and if ever a better solution presents itself, we will be on it like stripes on a tiger!

Why so much before I get free shipping?

While we would love for shipping to be non existent, the reality is that we live on a big planet and things need to be moved around.  Shipping is costly, both for the consumer and for the retailer.  There is no escaping it.  Even Amazon, with its massive volume, recently increased its shipping fees.  While just like Amazon, we know that shipping is a major irritant, we do not have the business to offer the same terms they do.  We also strive to pay our employees above minimum wage because we believe that a decent living wage is eventually better for everyone, including the economy - even if it hurts our bottom line a little.  We also do not get the insane discounts (sometimes up to 80%) that Amazon enjoys...  Let's face it: shipping is costly and there is always someone who pays for it.  With Amazon, the bulk of the shipping is paid by eating the profit margin of those selling their goods through them.  When we give you free shipping, on top of your client discount, we eat in our profits, which is what allows us to pay the bills and our employees.  But we feel that $100 worth of purchase or more deserves a break as well.  Just like we do for smaller purchases, that represent the same effort, cost and energy than big ones.

SUBSCRIPTIONS

How do Subscriptions work?

It’s simple. We create a list of the comics (min requirement is 1 ongoing title) you want to subscribe to. From that point forward, until you cancel the series, each future issue is ordered in for you and placed on hold.

You can build a list of the comics, trade paperbacks and/or magazines you would like to get each month or whenever they are released. Every week, when new comics arrive, we will bag, board, and set aside all the items you have specified.

Store Clients: Every week, an email is sent to you with the list of books that have arrived for you that week.  You can then come by the store to pick them up during business hours at your leisure.

Online Clients: When your billing cycle comes up (weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly) we will send out a bill which you will pay by following the instructions on the email.  If you chose to use the automated payment service (once a month), your favored method of payment is automatically charged at the due date.  Once the bill is paid, we will ship out your comics.  We place them in a protective bag, put them in a box, and deliver them out. We’ve sent thousands of packages this way and have rarely experienced a damaged delivery. If you want to add or subtract a title, you can do so online or at the store, and we will make sure you get your books.

How can I add a series to my list?

Browse or search for the comics you want, add the series (or for trades and graphic novels, the individual Trade or GN) by clicking “Subscribe”, and you are set up.

Your first pull for a new series will start 3 weeks after you first add it to your list to allow synchronization with the Diamond Comics Distribution system.

Like Unlike Loading... 1 people like this.

How often will I get my comics?

You can choose from weekly, twice monthly, or monthly. We will pack your bagged and boarded comics in another bag, put bubble wrap around them, and fit them in our custom built boxes. If you’re just getting one or two comics, you’ll get those in a custom built rigid mailer that keeps shipping costs under control.

Orders over $100.00 per shipment will get free shipping. We cannot hold shipments for more than one month, we will not combine shipping among months, and one-off items you add to your order do not count towards the $100.00 free shipping tier.

Like Unlike Loading... 0 people like this.

How much is shipping?

Shipping is free on all orders over $100.00.

1-3 comics will cost you around $5.00 anywhere in Canada. After that it’s done by area, and our shipping rates vary by province and are evaluated via Canada Post.  You can estimate your shipping costs at anytime on our website by clicking the appropriate button.

We understand that many people don’t like paying for shipping, but when you consider that having your comics delivered to you saves you travelling costs, and frees up your valuable time, it works out to about the same amount of money.

Like Unlike Loading... 0 people like this.

When will I get charged for my subscriptions?

Your comics will be billed to you based on your shipping schedule. If you are weekly, we will bill you weekly. Twice monthly? We bill you twice a month. Monthly? Yup, you guessed it, we will bill you monthly.

For twice monthly orders, we bill on the Wednesday closest to the 15th, and the last Wednesday of the month.

For monthly orders, we bill on the last Wednesday of the month.

You will get an email that will have a link to your account with your current total. Orders are not processed until they’re paid for.

PREORDERS

HOW DO PREORDERS WORK?

OUR PREORDER SYSTEM IS PRETTY SIMPLE AND IS TWO-FOLD, DEPENDING IF THERE IS ENOUGH QUANTITIES OR NOT.

PREORDERS APPLY TO SPECIAL ITEMS, SUCH AS TOYS, WHICH MAY BE RELEASED WAY IN THE FUTURE BUT REQUIRE A RESERVATION AHEAD OF TIME OR FOR NEXT WEEK'S ITEMS THAT YOU MAY BE INTERESTED IN BUT HAVE NOT ADDED TO YOUR INBOX AT THE STORE OR ONLINE.

YOU CAN EITHER:

A) PREORDER - ENOUGH QUANTITIES.  YOU PAY FOR THE PRODUCT USING YOUR PREPAID ACCOUNT, YOUR CREDIT CARD OR PAYPAL.  AS SOON AS THE PRODUCT IS IN STOCK, YOU WILL RECEIVE AN EMAIL NOTIFICATION.  DEPENDING ON YOUR SELECTED SHIPPING MODE, IT WILL EITHER BE SHIPPED TO YOU BY THE CARRIER OF YOUR CHOICE OR BE AVAILABLE FOR PICKUP AT THE STORE UNDER YOUR NAME.

B) PREORDER - NOT ENOUGH QUANTITIES.  SINCE THERE IS NOT ENOUGH PRODUCTS TO FULFILL DEMAND, YOUR ORDER WILL NOT GO THROUGH.  YOUR ONLY OPTION LEFT IS TO BE ADDED TO THE WAIT LIST.  SHOULD THE ITEM NOT HAVE SPECIFIC QUANTITY LIMITATIONS, YOUR ITEM WILL BE PLACED IN YOUR INBOX AND YOU CAN EITHER HAVE IT SHIPPED OR PICK IT UP AT THE STORE.  AN EMAIL WILL BE SENT TO YOU WHEN THE ITEM IS AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE.

You can get detailed instructions on how to perform a preorder on our site by clicking on the button below:

SHOULD QUANTITIES NOT BE SUFFICIENT TO FULFILL YOUR PREORDER, YOU MAY CHOOSE TO ADD YOURSELF TO THE WAITING LIST.  THIS WILL NOTIFY US TO ORDER MORE AND TO RESERVE A COPY FOR YOU.  YOU WILL RECEIVE AN EMAIL ONCE THE ITEM IS IN STOCK AT THE STORE AND YOU MAY CHOSE TO PAY AND PICK IT UP AT THE STORE OR HAVE IT DELIVERED TO YOU.

FOR TOYS AND SPECIALITY ITEMS, SHOULD THE QUANTITIES BE LIMITED, YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ADD YOURSELF TO THE WAITING LIST.

INVENTORY

DOES THE WEBSITE INVENTORY MATCH THE STORE INVENTORY AND VICE-VERSA?

YES.  WHEN A SALE IS MADE IN THE STORE, THE WEBSITE SEES ITS QUANTITIES DEBITED.  THE SAME GOES IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION: IF A SALE IS MADE ON THE WEB, THE STORE INVENTORY IS DEPLETED.  THERE IS A SHORT DELAY BETWEEN BUT IT SHOULD BE SUFFICIENT IN MOST CASES TO ENSURE THAT PEOPLE GET WHAT THEY WANT, EVEN IF STOCKS ARE LOW.

Where do the images used to display products come from?

Unless otherwise stated images that appear in product listings are provided directly from our distributors. In the case of Diamond Comic Distributors, these images are provided to DCD by their respective publishers and/or companies.

The images, in many cases, are covers that have not yet been branded with titles or logos and therefore are not final versions of the products that will be shipped once purchased.

Additionally variant covers, incentive covers, multiple available covers (A, B, C,...), sketch covers and blank covers are oftentimes unavailable in their final versions at the time of posting; the versions posted on the website are those made available by the distributor at the time in which distribution has been confirmed.

Under no circumstances is Librairie Z Bookstore is responsible or liable for the accuracy of the images presented in a product posting.

Librairie Z Bookstore shall ship the specific product that was purchased based solely on the product's description which may or may not match the image that was provided by the distributor for posting purposes.

Variants are listed all over the place, what exactly are these things?

So, the question is: what in the world is a comic book variant?

We’ll do our best to answer that with some clarity so here’s how we’ll do it: we’ll break the response into three parts!

New Printing Variants, Ratio Variants and Retailer Incentive Variants (RI Variants).

First, though, let's define what a regular cover or comic book is.

When a comic book is originally released, meaning it is the very first time that the contents have gone to press and are printed under a certain title (yes, there are exceptions here too!*), that is what is considered to be the 1st Printing.

Based on pre-sales collected from global vendors publishers will determine how many copies of the 1st Print will be printed with an overrun margin.

These first prints are listed on this site as "Retail" in most cases which can also be referred to in the industry as Direct Market (DM), which are distributed only to specialty comic book retailers that may vary slightly from newsstand versions.

In regards to listings on Librairie Z Bookstore "Retail" applies if a 1st Print book is offered with just a single cover.

*The exception explanation: In the paragraph above we state, "…it is the very first time that the contents have gone to press and are printed under a certain title…." This is true, however, reprints can appear in first print editions of books so long at the title or volume of the book is different.

For example, if some or all of contents of Fantastic Four #1000 reappear in Fantastic Team-Up #50 then both issues are considered 1st Print books. Fantastic Four #1000 contains content that has gone to press for the very first time and Fantastic Team-Up #50, even though it is a first print, contains reprinted material.

Had the reprinted material shown up in a new printing of Fantastic Four #1000 then that book would be considered a 2nd Print Variant. Confused? Refer to "Print Variants" below.

Just to throw a wrench into things there are more exceptions: multiple covers! We’ll begin with the common 50/50 split: Cover A & Cover B: This occurs frequently among several publishers.

In this case a publisher will divide the 1st Print run into an equal split in which half the print-run is released with one cover and the balance in another.

Both covers are considered to be 1st Print originals and retail at release at the same value on the date they are released. Covers A, B, C, D, etc…: In a case like this there are various 1st Print covers released in equal ratios of an issue. All covers are considered to be 1st Print originals and retail at the same value on the date they are released.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION TO OUR SUBSCRIBERS: If there are postings for Cover A and Cover B in our listings, ONLY Cover A will be offered within the Subscription service. If you wish to obtain Cover B then it will have to be added to your inbox directly from the product’s listing.

If there are two or more equal split covers available and the item posting shows "Retail" as opposed to multiple covers (Cover A, Cover B, etc…) the cover that will ship with Subscriptions will be randomly selected from those received.

So now that we’ve gotten all that noise out of the way we can hopefully help in defining variants for you.

New Printing Variants: A New Printing Variant occurs when a title sells out rapidly either before or immediately after its forecast release date. (A book can sell out before it is released when retailers significantly increase their initial orders before distribution beyond the print run that was originally anticipated).

When this situation occurs a publisher desires two things:

1. To compensate for readers interested in acquiring the books the opportunity to do so and...

2. To make as much profit as they can from a single publication. The remedy for this is sending the book back to print. In most cases publishers may alter the original cover of the book with a new distinguishing feature to differentiate it from the previous printing(s).

These new printings occur shortly after a book’s original release to reach the readers while the publication is still highly popular.

These New Printing Variants are referred to 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc… print variants.

Ratio Variants: These variants have become a common strategy adopted by most major publishers such as Marvel and DC Comics within the last decade which now seem to make up part of the regular comic business.

Understanding these variants is a simple concept based on the volume of books retailers purchase of the regular retail edition.

For example a one in ten ratio variant (1:10 Variant) means that if a retailer orders ten copies of the regular retail edition they now have the option to order one exclusive edition of the book.

That means that 10% or less of this books print run would feature an alternative edition of the book.

The inner contents of the book (story, pages, ads, etc.) with these variants are always identical to the regular retail edition so there is nothing different offered.

They are all also first prints of the book.

The distinguishing feature of Ratio Variants is their covers.

In many cased different artists will provide covers to the same book increasing the appeal of acquiring the book.

So, not only are you acquiring a book that is more rare than the regular retail edition, you may be acquiring the book with a cover drawn by a favorite creator.

Only the test of time will determine the overall appeal and value of these variants, but to collectors that are true completists, these variants are must-haves even at the highest of ratios!

Ratio Variants are frequently offered in the following ratios: 1:10, 1:15, 1:25, 1:50, 1:75, 1:100 and 1:200.

That’s not to say that there can’t be 1:44 or 1:52 variant editions, both of which exist, however they are far less common.

So if you see a 1:100 Variant posting, it means that the book listed has a print run that consists of less than 1% of the book’s regular retail edition.

RI Variants (Retailer Incentive): These variants can go either way; they can either be really simple or have retailers jump through hoops like well trained circus acts.

Let's get the simple one out of the way and save the brain-twister for last.

An RI Variant is simple when a publisher provides the distribution constraints up front without complications.

Here are some examples of what an RI Variant can be:

- Every retailer that participates in "Named Event" will receive one exclusive variant of "Book Series No. XX".

- Every retailer can order a maximum of three copies of "Book Series No. XX".

But sometimes, the publisher makes its so hellish, it turns into a math marathon!

- For example, you may get one copy of variant of Book Series X if you order 25% more than your order of April of Tile Y.

- You may get one variant of Book X  for each orders of title Z that match or exceed your order of title y or Title W from three months ago.

And there are even more complicated situations.  So RI variants are a major pain in everyones butts...

FUNKO POP

Can you get me a Chase? a PX Exclusive? A Specialty Series? Any other type of Exclusive?

We cannot guarantee that you will get a Chase.  By definition, they are produced in lesser quantities, hence their value.  Although Funko now produces more of them, we never have any guarantee that we will get one when we order.  Our policy is first come, first served when it comes to Limited Edition Chase.  We have a section on the website where they are listed as soon as they are in stock.

We can however guarantee the PX Exclusive and Specialty Series if they are ordered on time. For any other type of exclusivity, we can not guarantee anything but it will be our pleasure to obtain it if we can.

How do holidays and weekends impact orders?

ORDERS SHIPPING OUT OF LIBRAIRIE Z BOOKSTORE:

Purchases made and/or shipments sent during holidays and/or weekends are dependant on Canada Post's operating schedule.

Additionally, LIBRAIRIE Z BOOKSTORE operations are based on official legal holidays and election days defined within the province of Québec, Canada.

Normal shipping and scheduling resume immediately following a holiday to ensure orders arrive at their destination as rapidly as possible.

US orders purchased through the website will also be subject to holiday delays should an order be sent during a national American holiday.

Orders, excluding Letter mail envelopes, are provided with a tracking number once they have been packaged and sent.

An automated email is sent out providing the tracking number with a direct link to the shipping provider's website.

It is important to note that if a shipping method is selected that is not considered to be a "parcel" or "package" such as, but not limited to, Letter mail, Standard Mail, First Class Mail in which a shipping tracking number is not provided resulting in the impossibility of tracking the order, Librairie Z Bookstore waives all or any liability should the order not arrive, be delayed or damaged by the postal or shipping service.

We strongly recommend selecting a shipping method with tracking for insurance and delivery guarantees.

SPECIALS

What is the deal with the Specials section? Some of these things are severely discounted! What's the catch?

The deal is that those items are severely discounted for one or many of the following reasons:

- The item has some minor damages, either to its packaging or because of printing or binding issues.

- The item is an end of line or the other issues that are needed to complete the series are either out of print or no longer available through our distribution channels.

- Some of those items are overstock that we wish to get rid of quickly.

- We just felt like cutting you guys some slack and cut you a good deal!

I ordered an item from the Specials section. Can I return it?

No.  There is absolutely no returns possible on the items that are in the specials section.  They are already severely discounted and they are there for many reasons (see other questions in this section).  At that price, it is a take it or leave it sort of situation.

    • HOWARD THE DUCK #16. Fascinant.
    • THE RATTLER.

    • IRREDEEMABLE ANT-MAN.
    • KARNAK. The flaw in all things.
    • SALLY OF THE WASTELAND.

/qc/anglophone-americain/marvel-comics-romans-graphiques/x-men-domino-tp
    • NEXTWAVE: AGENTS OF HATE. Un must!
/qc/anglophone-americain/marvel-comics-romans-graphiques/nextwave-agents-of-hate-complete-collection-tp-new-ptg
    • THE GREAT LAKE AVENGERS MISASSEMBLED.
