Getting Ready For Gotham Season 2!
Many of us are anxiously awaiting the return of Gotham. We have just one more week until season two premiers on Fox. Episode one, “Damned if You Do”, will air September 21 and promises to have yet another Gordon/Penguin team up. Last season ended with Penguin claiming the throne of A-number-one villain in Gotham and left us anticipating the emergence of new villains to try and claim that title.

One of the things that sets Batman and his numerous villains apart is that they have no little to no superpowers. They're basically all vigilantes fighting for their own cause. There may be a few exceptions to that but considering that the television show currently has no superhero it's great that they're sticking to introducing the villains who have no superpowers. So far we have met Penguin, Riddler, Joker, and Two-Face. Penguin is currently the only one who's an active villain, the other three have yet to make their official appearance as a villain. This season we're promised two new villains, Theo and Tabitha Galavan. The introduction of these two are said to solidify the group of Gotham's most dangerous criminals. So who the heck are Theo and Tabitha Galavan? We'll certainly find out by watching the show but this is what we know so far. Theo Galavan is “an attractive billionaire industrialist who convinces the public he is a hero”. Tabitha is labeled as his “enforcer”. It seems these two have an agenda. They're going to win over the people of Gotham only to turn on them and unite the villains of Gotham. So are these two new villains created for the show like Fish Mooney? Sort of.
Tabitha Galavan is also going to be known as Tigress. The villain Tigress has been around since 1938, but she has gone through several transformations since then. Action Comics #1 introduced Tigress as a thief, a spy and the main foe of Zatara. If you're thinking that's a misspell, it's not, however Giovanni Zatara is the father of Zatanna Zatara so there is a connection.
The original Tigress was known to run a gang of thieves and murderers, which sounds similar to this latest version. The second incarnation of Tigress was Paula Brooks. Paula Brooks began as Tigress who was a hero. Then she switched to Huntress, a criminal. The third Tigress is, Artemis Crock, the daughter of Paula Brooks and both were members of the Injustice Society. Tabitha Galavan definitely sounds like a new version of Tigress with some traits borrowed from previous versions. With promotional photos of the upcoming season she also looks like she borrowed some style tips from Eartha Kitt. Perhaps young Selina Kyle will be inspired by Tigress's fashion choices?
It is somewhat wise to create new villains for the show considering Bruce Wayne has yet to discover the Batcave or go on his quest to become a crusader against crime. There is a lot of freedom to have new criminals to help build up the villains we all know and love, but there is some room to introduce more of those characters.
We could definitely see some Ra's al Ghul action before Batman comes along. We could definitely check in on Dr. Victor Fries. We still have time to meet Cyrus Gold before he's thrown into Slaughter Swamp. Some lesser known villains could get their 15 minutes on this show.
Agent Orange, the Vietnam Veteran who blamed the government for his injuries, takes out his anger and frustration on the citizens of Gotham. The show is still vague as to what year they're in but considering they have computers and cell phones it's not out of the realm of possibilities to have a Vietnam Veteran wreaking havoc on the streets of Gotham. From previews we've seen that Barbara Gordon and Jerome spend some time together in Arkham.
Knowing that, there's room for more villains to be introduced inside the asylum. Edgar Heed, a.k.a. Egghead, thinks of himself as the world's smartest criminal and is known for his puns that never get eggs-hausting.
So many villains, so many possibilities. Who do you think deserves some face time on Gotham?
